So I have been trying to put things together for the Green Team Meeting and I have been having some trouble. I can't get the maintenance department to contact me back. I talked to the Green Team Director and she said they are the most impossible people to deal with. So she told me to start from another venue. I decided to start with what I can do to educate my teachers. I have researched the markers that my teachers use on our white boards and know that they have harmful chemicals in them and that there is an alternative.
Here is my campaign idea...
I am going to buy some canvas, hopefully the biggest I can find. I will use the safe markers to make my poster and on the top of the poster I will write big...
HANDS AGAINEST HARMFUL CHEMICALS
"We as students and teachers in the WFISD want to take a stand.
A stand for something new, something better, something
safer for our bodies. We as the WFISD body are
commiitted to making this change to products that
are safer for our generations and those to come.
If you want to take a stand with us, use this marker
to trace your hand and then sign your signature inside
your hand. Let's be the change we want to see in our world"
I want people who are going to help me change this school be the ones that trace their hands. So when I get all these hands, what do I do? Who do I go to? City and Town Meetings? What's the next step?

At MA's Green Festival this year, we would like to have a booth
where people can bring in their old, toxic makeup, make art out of it, and
then have it replaced with green, non-toxic makeup. Our goal is to replace students harmful products with new things,
have them find out that it works just as well, if not better than their
old stuff, and then the next time they go to the store to buy new makeup,
they will look for the non-toxic brands. Know of anyone that can help?

On February 6-7, Teens Turning Green will be hosting their fabulous 4th Annual Summit. Come join us as we collaborate for two days with students, teachers, and fellow community members from around the U.S. We will be doing fun and interesting workshops, panels, strategic thinking and discussions with intriguing visionary leaders. During the Summit you learn what it truly means to be "green" and how easy it is to live an eco-lifestyle. Teens Turning Green promotes education about consumerism, helps inspire awareness of your eco-footprint, and how your actions effect yourself along with the planet.
I attended the Teens Turning Green 3rd Annual Summit last year and was absolutely blown away. My mom, sister, and I went to Marin Art and Garden Center and left with a colossal amount of knowledge about how we could make our lives greener, healthier, and safer. The positive environment at the Summit was wonderful. Being able to eat dinner with people who are making global change to green and better people's lives was amazing. It was an experience you just cannot forget. We became educated and felt at ease knowing that the cosmetic and cleaning products we bought would not harm our health or well-being. We started changing our products from toxic to green. I was greatly inspired by the speakers and panelists that spoke at last years Summit, and by listening to them I promoted change in my life and in others.

After my first meeting for the Teens for safe cosmetics club, I was inspired to alert my friends of the dangers found within our supposedly "safe" and "organic" cosmetics. Many were unaware of how many toxins exist in their shampoos, conditioners, and makeup. I think it is important to get involved, and generate an interest in people towards helping spread the knowledge. The new project we are hoping to undertake, called Project Prom, is designed to give girls the organic option for hair products, make up, dresses, and everything that needs to be done in preparation for prom night. I think this could really make a difference if girls are notified of this option. Overall, my first meeting was enlightening, and I cannot wait to learn more and start helping with the projects.
