BYOBag- Marin

byob_logo.jpegThe Facts:

· Each year, approximately 500 billion to one trillion single-use disposable plastic bags are used throughout the world.

· Californians use nineteen billion (19,000,000,000) single-use carryout bags annually and throw away 600 per second, but less than 5% of these bags are recycled;
· Marin residents throw away 138 million bags annually that end up in Marin's landfill or elsewhere

The Campaign:

MARIN COUNTY WANTS TO LEAD THE NATION IN ELIMINATING ENVIRONMENTALLY HARMFUL SINGLE-USE BAGS.

WE ARE SUPPORTING AN ORDINANCE THAT WILL BAN MERCHANTS FROM PROVIDING NON-REUSABLE PAPER AND PLASTIC BAGS AT ALL RETAIL LOCATIONS IN MARIN. WITH SUPPORT FROM COMMUNITY RESIDENTS, GROUPS AND BUSINESSES, WE CAN ENSURE ITS PASSAGE ON EARTH DAY 2010.
